Gameweek 13 was unlucky for some – how did the latest batch of Premier League games treat you in Fantasy Premier League?
As we enter the festive period, teams like Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool will be feeling the Christmas spirit as they were all in winning form at the weekend. But who were the best individual performers from the weekend in FPL?
There was a tie between the two best performing goalkeepers in FPL this week. Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez each made a smattering of saves and kept a clean sheet to give themselves a points total of seven.
Likewise, there is also a tie for dubious honour of being the worst performing goalkeeper of the week – but in this case, it is split four ways. Of the quartet, Jordan Pickford probably put in the most lacklustre display, as he shipped four goals against Newcastle United for Everton.
To make things worse, one of the goals was directly his fault after he failed to keep out a routine save – it was an unfortunate fall from grace for England’s number one after an oustanding display against Manchester United last weekend.
Malick Thiaw tops the pile in terms of defenders in FPL this week. It was a magnificent display from the defender, as he scored twice against Everton en route to the Magpies’ 4-1 win on the road. In total, he netted himself a tidy 15 points.
Additionally, it was a good week for Brighton’s Maxim De Cuyper, who both scored and kept a clean sheet against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
While it was a bountiful weekend for certain defenders, there were quite a few who failed to muster a single point in FPL. Players such as Micky van de Ven, Jake O’Brien and Marc Guehi all ended up with a big, fat zero next to their names at the end of gameweek 13.
We have another tie! This time, it is between Newcastle starlet Lewis Miley and Manchester City ace Phil Foden, both of whom scored 15 points in FPL this week.
Lewis Miley romped his way through Everton’s midfield, notching up a goal and an assist, while Phil Foden was on hand to score a brace and give City a labouring win over Leeds United.
It was a weekend to forget for Moises Caicedo, however, as he picked up a red card after a dangerous challenge. He wasn’t the only one to be dismissed – Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta also received their marching order over the course of the weekend.
Once again, Brentford star Igor Thiago was the top scoring striker of the weekend in FPL with 13. He netted a brace against Burnley en route to the Bees’ 3-1 win.
Elsewhere, Joshua Zirkzee put in a strong performance against Crystal Palace, collecting a healthy total of nine points.
While he wasn’t the lowest-scoring forward of the weekend, we have to pick Erling Haaland as our loser of the week, especially as so many FPL players opted to use their triple captain chip on him this week. He couldn’t repay their faith, as he returned a points total of just two after failing to register a goal contribution.
