For Tottenham Hotspur to compete on multiple fronts next season, including the Champions League, Daniel Levy must aim to back Thomas Frank in the summer transfer window.
So far, Thomas Frank has overseen the permanent capture of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, and the acquisitions of Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus. Having good depth in all areas of the pitch will only prove to be beneficial in the long-run, so Spurs must add more to their squad before the window slams shut in August.
The Lilywhites were badly hit by injuries throughout last season, impacting their performances in the Premier League in the process. Their defensive unit was most affected, as bar Pedro Porro, all the defenders missed games through injury issues.
Following Sergio Reguilon’s release upon the expiry of his contract last month, Destiny Udogie is now the only natural left-back in Thomas Frank’s squad. To add to their left-back department, Spurs have been linked with a move for KAA Gent starlet Archie Brown of late. In fact, the North Londoners have ‘done their work’ on the English full-back, who enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season in the Belgium Pro League. This has seen him pique interest from other European clubs.
As per the latest developments, Tottenham have missed out on the signing of Gent left-back Archie Brown. According to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, Fenerbahce have agreed an €8m plus deal with Gent for Brown. The Englishman has landed in Istanbul with his agents on Friday after deciding to join Fenerbahce.
Interestingly, AC Milan had been pushing for the 23-year-old’s signature over the last week. But to the Rossoneri’s dismay like Spurs, the former Derby County youth player, who has spent the entirety of his senior career outside of England, has decided to join Jose Mourinho’s side. He is set to undergo his medical tests in Istanbul today.
Brown opting Fenerbahce as the next destination of his career is a big blow to Tottenham, particularly with Udogie attracting interest from AC Milan of late. The Italy left-back finds a move to Max Allegri’s Milan an appealing prospect, and if he pushes for a move back to Serie A, it would leave Spurs in a state of bother.
This is why losing out on Brown to Mourinho’s club should pinch Daniel Levy. At 23, it is fair to say that Brown still has his best years ahead of him. He would have perfectly slotted into Thomas Frank’s system, as well as, potentially replaced Udogie.
Now, if our club are to find a replacement for the Milan-linked Udogie, Levy and Co. have to scour the transfer market for a young, exciting player with potential.
