Manchester United legend Robin van Persie has been sacked by Feyenoord, despite the club’s qualification for the 2026/27 Champions League.
The former Arsenal, United and Fenerbahçe footballer, who also spent time at the Dutch club as a player, will leave this summer, with reports out that his time is over.
Van Persie retired from playing football at Feyenoord in 2019, before returning as a manager in 2025, but his journey with them is once again finished.
Dutch publication VoetbalPrimeur reports, ‘Van Persie and Feyenoord have now reached agreement on the trainer’s departure. The last formal cases surrounding the termination of the collaboration are currently being completed.
‘Official confirmation of the farewell is expected in the short term. According to sources of Feyenoord Transfer market both parties are currently still dealing with some remaining agreements before the news is released.’
Van Persie led Feyenoord to a second-place finish in the Dutch league, which saw his side qualify for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League, but the team were inconsistent.
Bad spells, including a run of just 3 wins in 14 games between October and January, meant Feyenoord finished 19 points off first-placed PSV Eindhoven.
The sacking comes as no huge surprise. In February, fans held aloft banners against the regime of van Persie, some saying, “Mismanagement,” and, “RVP out.”
The external pressure has now led to van Persie’s sacking, who will now be without a club this summer.
Robin van Persie is an icon in England, and made 105 appearances for Manchester United between 2012 and 2015. In his time at the club, van Persie got his hands on a Premier League title and a Golden Boot. Overall, he scored 58 goals across all competitions, creating a legacy at the club.
His next steps are now unclear, but van Persie’s Feyenoord stint has come to an end after a disappointing tenure.
