Finance expert announces Tottenham to earn £70m if UEL glory becomes a reality

Earlier last month, Daniel Levy had announced that the Lilywhites had to bear huge losses in the last financial year. The Spurs chairman had also announced that the club would not be able to spend a lot of money in the transfer window to improve the squad. But, since the announcement, Tottenham have managed to reach the Europa League final and now face the prospect of earning millions if they win the competition.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley has given a breakdown of how Spurs will receive a huge influx of money if they win the Europa League. Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Plumley said,

“The minimum number we used to work on with the Champions League was around £50million for an English club, now you can put another £20m on that at least. If they were to win the Europa League and win it, that would be £35m, if you get into the Champions League, it’s double that, even in a prudent estimate.”

Dan Plumley suggests that English clubs used to earn a minimum of £50million for winning the Champions League. However, the finance expert adds that the new format and the distribution of cash-flow has changed significantly this year. Plumley insists that Spurs would earn £35m from winning the Europa League, and the club would also receive an extra £35m for qualifying for Champions League football next season.

If the Lilywhites manage to win the competition and receive £70m, it would change the trajectory of the club heading into the transfer window. Spurs would then be able to target more players to bolster their squad. Also, the North London club would not be forced to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer.

Fans will hope that Spurs beat Manchester United in the upcoming Europa League final. The Lilywhites have already gotten the better of the Red Devils thrice this season in all competitions, so fans will be hopeful that Ange Postecoglou could repeat the trick again in three days’ time.
