Fiorentina have officially sent striker M’Bala Nzola to Serie A newcomers Pisa on loan with an option to buy and a counter-option.

The centre-forward will celebrate his 29th birthday later this month and spent last season on loan in France with RC Lens, where he scored six goals in 21 Ligue 1 appearances.

A statement from both clubs confirmed the transfer today, which is on loan with an option to buy, but Fiorentina also retain a counter-option in case they want to bring him back to base next summer.

Nzola back in Serie A for Pisa

It is believed to be a €1m loan fee with option to buy for a further €5-6m.

The Angola international spent most of his career in Italy with Virtus Francavilla, Carpi, Trapani and Spezia until the €12.6m plus add-ons transfer to Fiorentina in 2023.

There had also been interest from other clubs this summer, including Brazilian team Flamengo, but Nzola opted to continue his Serie A experience at Pisa.

It is a very short distance from Florence to Pisa, so he will effectively feel at home under the guidance of new coach Alberto Gilardino.
