Radu Dragusin was open to leaving on loan in January, but Tottenham did not sanction his departure due to injury problems.
Radu Dragusin has struggled at Tottenham Hotspur ever since he arrived from Genoa in January 2024.
The Romanian international was viewed as a valuable signing for Spurs at the time to add much-needed squad depth to a side that struggled with injuries then and has continued to ever since. Things haven’t really worked out for the giant centre-back in N17. He has often been far from convincing whenever on the pitch, with his defensive shortcomings coming under the scanner.
Radu Dragusin returned in late December 2025 from an ACL injury. He was actually enjoying a run in the first XI last season, only for a serious ACL injury sustained in January to ruin his progress. The 24-year-old is not at the level of first-choice centre-back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and even their back-up, Kevin Danso, yet he was a coveted commodity back in the winter transfer window.
Several Serie A clubs were keen on Dragusin’s services. AC Milan wanted to sign the Spurs defender, while Napoli and AS Roma had enquired about him as well. Juventus saw a deadline day loan approach for the Romanian rejected by Spurs, who wanted to keep hold of him amid injury struggles.
Fiorentina were reportedly pushing to bring Dragusin in the winter window to aid their survival battle. After enduring a rough first half of the campaign, they wanted the Spurs man to strengthen their defensive ranks. However, the Lilywhites had no interest in letting him go, which led to no move materialising.
The situation at Fiorentina has hugely improved in the last couple of months. From languishing at rock bottom of the Serie A table, they have climbed up to 16th under Paolo Vanoli. There is a renewed optimism within the Florence-based outfit that they can survive the drop now, which has led to the club officials planning for the summer transfer window.
Now, according to an exclusive report from SportsBoom, Fiorentina are planning to revive their interest in Dragusin should they maintain their Serie A status intact. They want to bring the 24-year-old back to Italy, where he had established himself as one of the exciting young defenders.
Spurs have developed a good relationship with Fiorentina lately. They loaned out Manor Solomon to the Tuscans in the winter transfer after cutting short his Villarreal loan. Fabio Paratici, who previously served as Spurs’ Co-Sporting Director, is now handling the operations as the Head of Football at Artemio Franchi Stadium. So, Paratici is expected to play a key role should I Viola resurrect their interest in Dragusin in the summer.
For Fiorentina, the lure of Dragusin is clear. He already has the experience of playing in Serie A, making him a considerably low-risk option in terms of adjustment to the league. Due to his previous understanding of the environment, one would imagine the Romania international to slot in immediately in their manager’s XI, whilst becoming a long-term asset at Artemio Franchi Stadium.
However, until and unless Tottenham do not sign a competent centre-back to keep their squad depth intact, we must not sanction Dragusin’s exit in the summer.
