Fiorentina will face Polissya in Conference League play-off

Fiorentina will play Ukrainian side Polissya Zhytomyr in the UEFA Conference League preliminary round after the elimination of Hungarians Paksi.

The Viola have been one of the success stories of the competition since its inception, reaching the Final two years in the row and then the semi-final last season.

They must again go through a preliminary round to reach the tournament proper.

It will be against Polissya, who lost 2-1 in Hungary to Paksi FC this evening, but went through 4-2 on aggregate thanks to their first leg victory.

Ukrainian hurdle for Fiorentina to overcome

Curiously, both legs of the play-off will be played on neutral turf.

The first leg on August 21 has to be outside Ukraine because of the security situation, while Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi is undergoing reconstruction work.

They have been given permission to play the home leg of this Conference League tie at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia , usually the arena of Sassuolo, on August 28.
