Highlights
Back in August, Kingsley Coman's 10 year association with Bayern Munich came to an end, when he joined Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on a two-year deal for around 25 million Euros.
Bayern have not missed a beat in his absence, winning all ten games in all competitions at the start of a season since they were promoted to the top flight in 1965. Meanwhile, things are going well for Coman too, with Al-Nassr winning the only side in the Saudi Pro League to win all of their opening four games.
During his time in Munich, the Frenchman divided opinion. A player with a lot of pace and quality, he was also inconsistent, as well as very injury prone. Nevertheless, his goal against PSG in the 2020 Champions League final was enough for him to go down in Bayern folklore.
During this international break, Coman has spoken about the manner of his departure from the club. Speaking to French outlet L'Equipe, via iMiaSanMia, the winger said: "At the very end of the transfer, there were things - which I won't mention - that complicated the situation.
I wasn't pushed out, but I was told that the club were open to a departure due to the financial situation. I had the love of the coach, the fans, some people on the board... but not everyone. There was a part of the club that wanted me to leave. And that part took up a lot of space in my mind.
But I'm coming back to say my goodbyes, because I spent almost ten years there, and it's the club that remains closest to my heart." Then, Coman was asked if he understands that people are surprised he moved to Saudi Arabia, at 29 years of age.
From there, he explained that he understand the surprise, and that he was even surprised himself - saying he had planned to spend a year at Bayern. He then said he had options in England and Spain, but it didn't make sense to play elsewhere in Europe, as Bayern offered the best conditions of European sides.
Very interesting. Those comments suggest he was in no hurry to leave the club this summer, but the fact some people wanted him out made up his mind for him. It did feel like a somewhat low offer.
Over the summer, Bayern lost both Coman and Leroy Sane - who left for Galatasaray on a free transfer - whilst Luis Diaz was the only winger to come in, so Bayern are lighter there than they were last season. Particularly as Serge Gnabry is filling in for Jamal Musiala in the number ten role.
