Former Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro is on trial with Scottish Premiership newcomers Falkirk, Soro is a free agent after leaving Beitar Jerusalem…

As reported by Daily Record, Soro may be in line for a return to face the Hoops this season, as he has been training with Falkirk ahead of their Premier Sports League Cup match at Celtic Park tomorrow night.

The 27-year-old Ivory Coast defensive midfielder is undergoing a trial with John McGlynn’s side as they gear up for the last 16 clash in Glasgow’s east end.

Friday night football at Paradise – What’s not to like?

Kicking off at 7:45 pm, the match will be shown live on Premier Sports and for Hoops supporters outside Britain and Ireland, Celtic TV will be providing full coverage. Tickets for the match on Friday evening are still available via the official Celtic FC website.

Soro has been a free agent since parting ways with Israeli Premier League club Beitar Jerusalem earlier this summer, ending a two-year stint that came after a loan spell in Portugal from Celtic, before his permanent exit from the Scottish champions in 2023.

Falkirk’s choice to take him on trial aligns with McGlynn’s ongoing efforts to build his squad for their return to Scotland’s top-flight, as the Bairns prepare to challenge the champions for a place in the quarter-final of the Premier Sports League Cup.

Soro joined Celtic from Bnei Yehuda in January 2020 on a four-and-a-half-year contract, going on to play more than 40 games for Celtic across domestic competitions and in the Europa League.

Soro featured against Falkirk in the Scottish Cup during Celtic’s forgettable 2020/2021 campaign.

Although Soro had some bright moments in Glasgow, he found it difficult to secure a regular starting spot, especially after Neil Lennon departed the club in February 2021. Ange Postecoglou’s arrival saw him slip further out down the pecking order, leading to moves overseas in pursuit of more game time.

For Soro, this could be a chance to revive his career in a setting he knows well, while Falkirk could be signing a useful asset at the prime of his career. It will be interesting to see if the former Celtic man secures a contract at the Bairns.
