Rennes Transfer Market: Kyogo Furuhashi on Bournemouth’s radar’ – That’s the headline on French news outlet LeParisien as a parting of the ways between the former Celtic striker and the Brittany club seems to be the best outcome for all parties.

Rennes have to offload a sizeable number of players over the summer and Kyogo has failed to gain any sort of traction at the club and as a result has failed to make the Japan squad for the two remaining dead-rubber World Cup fixtures next month.  What’s worse about that from Kyogo’s point of view is that the Japan Head Coach Hajime Moriyasu has rested most of his established stars to give opportunities to those on the fringes.

That’s were Kyogo found himself while at Celtic – although bizarrely that didn’t seem to apply to Daizen Maeda or Reo Hatate – and his big move to a Top Five league has had the opposite effect on his international chances with him now on the fringes of the fringes, very much on the outside looking in.

And if Bournemouth move quickly enough then they will benefit from the reduced transfer fee for a proven goalscorer with Rennes likely to accept an fraction of the £10m that they paid Celtic in January for the 30 year old striker, signed in July 2021 by Ange Postecoglou to spearhead his new look Celtic side.

Kyogo needs to sign for a club that is going to be able to offer regular starts, as he had at Celtic. In his first few games at Celtic he played alongside Ryan Christie who has established himself in the Premier League as one of Bournemouth’s top performers.

The French outlet reports: Before accelerating the pace of new signings, Stade Rennais must first trim down the numbers. With 46 players under professional contracts at the time of writing, the Breton club is not far from overdose. For the resumption of training scheduled for June 28, the coaching staff is expected to call up only 25 players, including three goalkeepers. Until then, departures are therefore necessary.

Barely six months after his €12 million arrival from Celtic, 30-year-old Kyogo Furuhashi is already set to leave Rennes. The Japanese striker, who is under contract until 2027, is one of the players up for sale.

Recruited at the request of former coach Jorge Sampaoli, he played very little under Habib Beye, who preferred the emergence of young Kader Meïté to strengthen his attacking line. The player wants to leave and remains highly valued across the Channel, where Bournemouth, according to our information, have positioned themselves to find out the terms of his exit.

The English club, 9th in the Premier League, has a nice financial windfall after the sale of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid. Closely monitoring the French market, it is also monitoring the situation of Adrien Truffert, whom Rennes would like to extend but whose intention is to leave one year before the end of his contract (2026).

Best of luck to Kyogo, the quicker he can get away from that unfortunate situation at Rennes the better.  One thing is for certain, if Celtic have any windfall clauses in that deal that took Kyogo to France then for once it won’t be paying any dividends.
