The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just over two months away and the U.S. media markets will be going all-out to cover it. One of the coveted names in U.S. soccer broadcasting is Taylor Twellman and it appears he's made his decision on who he'll be working with to cover it.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, Twellman will be joining Yahoo Sports as a contributor to their coverage of the World Cup. He will be joining Yahoo's digital coverage of the iconic event, appearing on shows such as Yahoo Sports Daily and The Cooligans.

“It really just came down to old-school relationships,” Twellman told the outlet.

The move also reunites Twellman with Yahoo Media Group president Ryan Spoon, who previously worked with Twellman at ESPN. Spoon had high praise for Twellman and said he looks forward to elevating Yahoo's coverage of the World Cup with him.

“Taylor continues to be one of the most compelling voices in soccer. His smart, engaging analysis will elevate our growing video coverage across Yahoo Sports, social, YouTube, and FAST this summer,” Spoon said.

The 2026 World Cup

The leadup to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has seen the first expanded 48-team edition and the first hosted by three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Awarded hosting rights by FIFA in 2018, the joint bid marked Mexico’s third time hosting World Cup matches and Canada’s first men’s tournament as a host. In the years leading up to 2026, organizers have focused on stadium upgrades, transportation planning, and security coordination across 16 host cities, while sponsors and broadcasters prepared for what is expected to be the most commercially successful World Cup in history.

On the sporting side, qualification campaigns across six confederations have introduced a new format with more automatic berths and expanded playoff pathways, giving additional nations a realistic chance to participate.

The USMNT will open the tournament in Group D against Paraguay on June 12, followed by Australia on June 19. Their final game will be against their still-undetermined UEFA Path C foe (one of either Turkey, Romania, Slovakia or Kosovo) on June 25.
