With the summer nearly upon us as the 2025/26 season has come to an end, teams now know their situation for next season, some good, some bad.
For Manchester United, having finished in third in the Premier League, The Red Devils are returning to the Champions League under the leadership of Michael Carrick.
However, for some, it’s not so fortunate.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley and West Ham United are all set for a spell in the Championship after being relegated from the top flight.
Unfortunately, an ex-Red Devil is now facing the same fate over in Germany as VFL Wolfsburg are set to head down to 2. Bundesliga.
Tonight saw the Bundesliga relegation play-off battle as 16th-place in the top flight, Wolfsburg, take on third-place in the 2. Bundesliga, in this case Paderborn, to see who gets the slot in the Bundesliga next season.
Ultimately, Paderborn reigned victorious after a ten-man Wolsfburg, thanks to a second yellow for Joakim Maehle, conceded in extra-time to lose 2-1.
This marks the first time in 29 years that Wolfsburg won’t be in the Bundesliga, and heading down with them is former United midfielder Christian Eriksen.
After leaving Old Trafford clubless at the end of last season, with United not wanting to renew his contract, Eriksen floated around, training with Malmo before officially joining Wolfsburg.
However, the 33-year-old has become a key part of the Wolfsburg set-up, making 34 appearances, scoring three goals and grabbing 10 assists, even captaining the squad at the end of the season.
With his contract running until 2027, the Denmark international is set to continue with the German side, hoping to help them reclaim their spot in the top flight next season.
