Darren Bent gives his opinion on Daniel Levy stepping down

After quite an exciting summer transfer window, the biggest surprise for Tottenham Hotspur fans came after the end of the market as the long-time Executive Chairman of the club, Daniel Levy, decided to step down from his position in a shock move.

After the departure of the former coach Ange Postecoglou, this move means the North London club will go forward under a significantly changed management. Postecoglou’s replacement, Thomas Frank, has started his tenure quite well, and the fans would be hoping that the club will continue on this course in the future as well after these momentous changes.

However, although he has stepped down from the Executive Chairman position, Levy might still be able to help the club with his leadership and experience. As per a report from FootballInsider247, this was the view of the former Spurs player Darren Bent.

The former striker expressed his shock on this event, and went on to give his opinion on how things might shape at the Lilywhite club:

“The fans have non-stop complained about him for years and years and it just felt like he was an irremovable object. The fact he has decided to step down, perhaps he has decided he can’t do the job as well as he maybe once could. Maybe he feels the club is going in a different direction that he feels needs to. I just can’t see him just step away completely… I think he will still have a role to play there [Tottenham]. Maybe over time he might distance himself a little bit, but I don’t think that would be the right thing to do either.”

Levy leaves a strong legacy at Tottenham

Although Tottenham made several exciting signings in the last summer transfer window, including those of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons, and also of Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani on loan, Daniel Levy also had to face some serious setbacks in this transfer window.

For instance, he was unable to land Morgan Gibbs-White, and also saw his club being humiliated as their North London rivals Arsenal hijacked their very advanced operation to land the Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.

Still, there is no doubt that Daniel Levy has done a lot for Tottenham, and he leaves behind a very strong legacy. The fans might not have always been at his back as they saw their club continuously miss out on their desired silverware, but there is no doubt that Spurs had several memorable moments under Levy’s leadership.

For now, one can hope that he will remain a part of the management in some capacity to ensure a smooth transition to the next administration.
