Former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has been linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job in recent weeks, but Paul Robinson believes that Premier League experience should be a must.
The former Tottenham goalkeeper wants the club to choose someone who has proven pedigree in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see who they end up with. They have been linked with multiple managers over the last few weeks.
Robinson said to Tottenham News: “So the managerial job will be attractive to somebody because, you know, you’re only going to do better than what’s happened this year. So somebody like Xavi, potentially with no Premier League experience. Do they go for Premier League experience?
“Xavi, yes, good manager, good potential. But for me, Premier League experience now is almost a must.”
Xavi has shown his quality in La Liga, and he helped Barcelona win the league title during his time at the club. There is no doubt that the 45-year-old could be an exciting appointment for the North London club.
Apart from a distinct style of play and a positive tactical approach, Xavi has plenty of winning experience as a player and a manager. Tottenham will be hoping to end their wait for a major trophy in the coming seasons, and the Spanish manager could prove to be the ideal appointment for them.
Even though he has no Premier League experience, he has the quality to make a defining impact at the London club. It will be interesting to see what the Premier League side decides this summer.
It has been a disappointing season for them, but they are currently focused on winning the UEFA Europa League. They have made it to the finals of the competition, where they will face Premier League rivals, Manchester United.
Winning the tournament will allow them to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season. It could prove to be final in terms of finances and the ability to attract top players.
