Manchester United’s search for a reliable centre-forward has become an increasingly important part of the club’s recruitment planning.

Michael Carrick’s side have struggled to find consistency during the opening weeks of the 2026/27 season, with six points from their first six Premier League matches leaving them down in 13th place.

Benjamin Sesko arrived last year to strengthen the attack, and had a good debut season, but an injury has disrupted his progress and created further uncertainty over United’s options up front this season.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo provide alternative attacking options, although neither is a conventional replacement for a fully fit number nine.

The January transfer window is less than three months away, and United will want to identify strikers who can contribute immediately while offering long-term value.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker scouted by Manchester United

According to Ficherio, Manchester United are sending scouts to watch Real Betis striker Troy Parrott in both La Liga and European competition, as the Irish international’s impressive form attracts growing Premier League interest.

The 24-year-old only arrived in Spain from AZ Alkmaar in August, but his performances have already drawn attention from clubs across Europe.

Betis secured his signature after a prolific season in the Netherlands, where he scored 31 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions during the 2025/26 season.

He also helped AZ win the Dutch Cup and Super Cup before making the move to Seville.

Troy Parrott is not an entirely unfamiliar name to English football supporters.

He developed in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy after moving from Ireland in 2017 and made senior appearances for Spurs, although he struggled to establish himself in their first team.

Loan spells at Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End followed before he moved to the Netherlands, where his career began to take off.

His breakthrough at AZ transformed his reputation.

Parrott scored 14 league goals in his first Eredivisie season and followed that with an even more productive season, establishing himself as a regular goalscorer and an important player for the Republic of Ireland.

His international performances have further raised his profile, making him an increasingly attractive option for clubs seeking a striker entering his prime.

However, United would face a significant obstacle if they decided to pursue him.

Parrott signed a contract with Betis running until June 2031, and reports have placed his release clause at around €80 million.

Whether Parrott becomes a serious target remains to be seen, but his rise from a fringe Tottenham prospect to one of Europe’s more closely watched young strikers has put him firmly on United’s radar.
