FOX Sports is offering what might genuinely be the dream job for soccer fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With the tournament set to be the biggest in history, spanning 104 matches across 39 days, the broadcaster is leaning fully into the scale of the moment.

And instead of just promoting coverage, FOX is turning one fan into the center of it. The idea is simple, but the opportunity is anything but.

Because this is not just about watching games, it is about living the entire World Cup experience.

FOX Sports launches ‘job of a lifetime’ for World Cup 2026

As announced via FOX Sports, the network is searching for one fan to take on a unique role.

“This FIFA World Cup will be a historic tournament that calls for an equally historic hire,” Robert Gottlieb said. “One engaged applicant will get the job of a lifetime to experience and celebrate every story, every nation and every exhilarating moment that defines the beautiful game.”

The role, titled “Chief World Cup Watcher,” will see one selected fan paid $50,000 to follow every moment of the tournament.

It is part of FOX’s push to promote its new FOX One streaming platform, which will carry all 104 matches live in 4K.

What the role involves and how fans can apply

The responsibilities go far beyond just sitting and watching.

The selected candidate will be required to watch every single minute of all 104 matches during the tournament, effectively becoming a full-time World Cup viewer.

But the experience itself is what makes it stand out. The job will be based inside a custom-built viewing space in the heart of Times Square, where thousands of fans, tourists, and passersby will interact with the experience daily.

On top of that, the role involves creating social media content throughout the tournament, sharing reactions, insights and fan moments while acting as a visible face of FOX’s coverage.

Applications are being handled through Indeed, where candidates must update their profiles, make themselves discoverable to recruiters, and submit a video explaining why they deserve the role using the hashtag #ChiefWorldCupWatcher.

The timeline is tight as well. Applications close in mid-May, with the winner set to be revealed before the tournament begins in June.
