A massive squad overhaul is needed in the summer if Tottenham want to build on the Europa League success next season. With Thomas Frank now at the helm at N17, the Lilywhites will look to bring in the players that suit his system. Daniel Levy needs to back the Danish tactician heading into next season if the North London club wants to kickstart a new era at Hotspur Way.
However, Spurs need to cash-in on underperforming players if they want to bring in reinforcements in the summer. The club is facing huge financial constraints due to the poor Premier League campaign that Ange’s men endured. Now, Daniel Levy is forced to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy to generate funds for new arrivals in the summer.
It is quite important for the Lilywhites to bring in new midfielders as Thomas Frank setup forces the central players to create chances from deep. Most of the attacks come through the number six and eight as they link up with wide players to create goal-scoring opportunities. As of now, Spurs have no quality holding midfielder that is comfortable on the ball.
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are willing to land Brentford star Christian Norgaard in the summer. The Denmark international has made a name for himself at the Gtech Stadium and was a crucial player for the Bees under Thomas Frank. The 31-year-old has overperformed ever since he made the switch from Fiorentina in 2019. And there is no surprise that Frank wants the midfielder to follow suit and head to N17 in the summer.
Now, Alasdair Gold also expects Spurs to test the waters and land the Danish midfielder in the coming weeks. Writing for Football.london, Gold said,
“It’s a shame (for Frank anyway) that Christian Norgaard signed a new deal towards the end of last season because I would not have been shocked if Spurs had made a move for him as he was one of the more underrated midfielders in the Premier League last season.”
The journalist added,
“Frank absolutely loves the experienced Dane and thinks he’s a special leader and no doubt would have wanted that at Spurs as someone who knows his demands inside out being in the centre of the team. Perhaps they might still test the water with Brentford.”
Alasdair Gold has suggested that Tottenham would have made a move on Brentford star Christian Norgaard in the summer if the 31-year-old had not signed a new contract during the latter stages of the season. The journalist adds that Thomas Frank ‘loves’ the midfielder and believes that he would fit right in at the heart of the midfield at N17. Gold also shares that Spurs might find a way to test the waters for Norgaard’s signature and lure him to join Thomas Frank at Hotspur Way next season.
The only concern that the fans would have with this signing is the age-factor. The Brentford midfielder is already 31-years-old and does not have a long time left at the top before he faces an eventual decline in form. However, his ability to play comfortably in Thomas Frank’ setup means that he might play a crucial part during the initial years at N17 while the Daish tactician sets up his foundations at the club.
