Many Wolves fans have questioned whether Joao Gomes has a long-term future at the club, and now there has been an update involving Manchester United.

The 2025/26 campaign has not gone to plan for Gomes.

The Brazilian midfielder has not hit his usual standards, with a number of performances falling below what supporters have come to expect.

Even so, he has not been one of the team’s worst performers, and his work rate still draws plenty of appreciation from fans.

The No.8 has also spoken directly to supporters more than once, asking them to stay behind the squad. It is clear he feels deeply about what the club are going through and wants to do everything he can to help turn things around.

However, while Wolves were in the process of appointing Rob Edwards as manager, some inevitable questions arose regarding Gomes’ future with the club, and a new update is now available.

There have been reports suggesting that Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Gomes ahead of the summer transfer window.

With Casemiro expected to leave, United are searching for a long-term replacement, and the Wolves midfielder has been on their radar for some time now.

Some have speculated whether Wolves’ struggles could push Gomes towards an exit in the upcoming window. However, Ben Jacobs does not see that happening.

“I don’t think anything is going to be possible for Joao Gomes mid-season because again, Wolves need to back their new manager Rob Edwards.

“They can’t afford to be losing more players and if there’s a mass exodus mid-season, the same for Jorgen Strand Larsen as well, Wolves are going to be in very big trouble,” the journalist explained on The United Stand.

Why it would be chaos if Wolves sold Joao Gomes mid-season

It is reassuring to hear that a January exit for Gomes is not on the cards.

Losing him would send a clear message that the club have given up on staying in the Premier League, especially since he is arguably their best player.

Given that ‘never say never’ is a fundamental truth in football, a potential sale might still be a source of anxiety for some supporters.

But there is absolutely no evidence at this stage to suggest that Wolves are planning to sell the Brazilian. If they do, then you will know Wolves have waved the white flag.

Hopefully, Jeff Shi, the chairman who prevented Jorgen Strand Larsen’s sale to Newcastle over the summer, will resist the urge to accept a potential huge bid for Gomes in January.
