While some Gooners remain unconvinced by one Gunner, some even preferring he stays far from the starting line-up, those inside the club believe Gabriel Martinelli is primed for a big season.

Whether he silences his critics, salvages his Arsenal career, or helps the club execute an intriguing plan concerning him, Martinelli is expected to play a key role in 2025-26.

Martinelli’s form sparks transfer talk

After two underwhelming campaigns, many felt last season confirmed the Brazilian was not improving at Arsenal. A summer sale would have made sense, freeing up wages and generating a fee that could fund the signing of a top left winger, which the club needs.

Yet, as talk of a left-wing signing begins to fade, a fresh claim about Martinelli has emerged, one that should get Gooners talking.

Arsenal’s internal view on Martinelli’s future

Speaking on the Latte Firm podcast Sami Mokbel shared insight into Arsenal’s thinking:

“So my understanding of that situation is: at the start of the window, I had a conversation with someone with good connections.

“He alluded to the fact that Gabriel Martinelli wouldn’t be available this summer owing to the fact that because last season perhaps wasn’t his best, there was probably an internal admission that they wouldn’t be able to attract his book value in the transfer market because of his performances.

“I don’t know what that book value is, but there is a concern that they wouldn’t attract those level of offers.

“So I think it has been decided that they will hang on to him for at least another season and maybe revisit that situation next year in hope that he has a good season and he may become untouchable or ,if he does have a good season, maybe they will get that book value that they would like to get out of him.”

From those comments, it is clear Martinelli is in line for significant game time, likely to boost his market value. That prospect may worry some fans, especially given Martinelli’s lacklustre pre-season.

But perhaps the tactical evolution Arsenal are undergoing with new midfield partnerships and the arrival of Viktor Gyökeres could provide the platform he needs to rediscover his spark. If Martinelli can recapture his 2022-23 form, the left wing may no longer be a source of concern. Arsenal could either sell him for a profit or rethink their transfer strategy entirely.

A gamble that could backfire

Still, while the club have opted to hold onto Martinelli in the hope of a resurgence, they must be prepared for the backlash if it does not materialise. For now, Gooners are simply hoping the left wing clicks and that Martinelli proves he is still capable of making a major impact in Red & White.

Love to hear your thoughts in the comments Gooners.
