Liverpool star Cody Gakpo hopes Trent Alexander-Arnold will stay at the club after securing the Premier League title on Sunday. Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 to secure their 20th League title and equal Manchester United’s record in the English league.
This is also the Reds’ second Premier League title in six years as they continue to challenge high-spending Manchester City. For Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, the title victory is an incredible achievement in his debut season at the club.
The Reds only signed Federico Chiesa in a bargain deal for the current season, while other clubs continued their spending. As Liverpool heads into the summer transfer window of 2025, they hope to keep their key players at the club.
One of those players is Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires at the end of the current season amid Real Madrid’s interest. One of the biggest proponents of Liverpool’s current success is the chemistry among the players, as they have stayed together.
Speaking to LFCTV while celebrating the Premier League success, Gakpo shared that he hopes for Alexander-Arnold to stay at Liverpool. He said:
“The group didn’t change much from last season, so you can build on that. With Mo and Virgil staying, and hopefully Trent as well, then you can keep building on that team.”
Liverpool will use the summer to strengthen their squad further as they endured a poor campaign in the cup competitions. It is up to Alexander-Arnold whether he wants to stay at the club and achieve his childhood dream or go.
Rest assured, staying at Liverpool will help him build a lasting legacy as they continue to compete for the trophies. At the same time, Real fans and Liverpool fans are opposites, as the expectations and demands in Spain are different.
Liverpool fans accept Alexander-Arnold for his strengths and his weaknesses, while his teammates understand the same. In Madrid, his weakness will receive scrutiny, something that even their legends like Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale couldn’t survive. Alexander-Arnold thrives in confidence, and that confidence requires constant support, something that he will lack at Real.
