Manchester United could lose Victor Osimhen as Galatasaray intends to sign the prolific forward in a permanent deal from Napoli. The Red Devils are among the top European clubs, which include Chelsea, who want Osimhen as he first their profile.
The 26-year-old’s future has remained uncertain since last summer, when he opted to leave Napoli on a surprise loan deal. The Nigerian has enjoyed a prolific season in Turkey and played a crucial role as Galatasaray tops the Turkish League.
However, Osimhen’s loan deal ends after this season, and there are many suitors still planning to sign him next summer. The Nigerian international has pace, physicality, clinical composure and technique to thrive in any top league and contribute consistent goals.
The 26-year-old has made 37 appearances in all competitions for Galatasaray this season, scoring 33 goals and providing eight assists. According to Turkish outlet Milliyet (via Mirror), Galatasaray have put together the £56m fee they have to pay to sign Osimhen permanently, beating Man United and Chelsea.
The Red Devils endured a tough campaign, which involved a managerial change as manager Ruben Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag. Amorim has not enjoyed a good start to his tenure at Old Trafford, with players he inherited failing him consistently.
United need to sign players who fit the profile that Amorim prefers in his tactical style of play. In his former club, Sporting CP, Amorim had Viktor Gyokeres, who played a vital and regular role as his forward.
The Red Devils currently possess Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in their ranks, and both have failed to solidify themselves. The poor inconsistencies and lack of contribution with goals have crippled an already struggling Man United team under Amorim.
United will prioritise the attacking department during the summer, and Osimhen perfectly fits Amorim’s required profile of a central forward. Irrespective of whether United could sign Osimhen or not, it is a positive sign that they are targeting players of the right profile to avoid past transfer mistakes.
