'Game-changer' Eberechi Eze could lead Arsenal to Premier League title

Arsenal have agreed to a £67.5M ($90.8M) deal with Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, hijacking Tottenham’s pursuit of the England international.

The agreement is reportedly structured as £60m plus £7.5m in add-ons, with the midfielder set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Emirates.

The timing proved decisive. The Spurs were confident of wrapping up a deal earlier this week, but Arsenal re-entered the race following Kai Havertz’s knee injury, which left manager Mikel Arteta short of attacking options.

Eze was out in Palace’s midweek Europa Conference League playoff against Fredrikstad as negotiations accelerated. If the necessary paperwork is completed by the Premier League’s midday registration deadline on Friday, he could debut against Leeds United on Saturday.

Should the deadline be missed, his first appearance would likely come at Liverpool on Aug. 31 in what is already shaping up as a pivotal early-season fixture.

The 27-year-old arrives on the back of a standout campaign at Selhurst Park, delivering double-digit goal contributions and playing a decisive role under Oliver Glasner, including Palace’s historic FA Cup triumph.

His dribbling, creativity and ability to unlock compact defences made him Palace’s key attacking outlet, qualities Arsenal hope will help break down the low-block opponents that have frustrated them in recent seasons.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes the signing could transform the club’s title prospects. Featuring in his Sky Sports column, he described Eze as "a brilliant signing… a game-changer and a perfect fit."

"I think Arsenal win the league with Eze," he added. "They had a chance without him because it’s a real heads-or-tails season with Liverpool, and Man City played well on the opening weekend, but Eze could help get them over the line.”

For Arsenal, the move carries symbolic weight as well as tactical importance. Beating Spurs to one of the Premier League’s standout talents underlines the club’s intent to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool at the top.

With Eze joining Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and summer arrival Viktor Gyokeres, Arteta now has an attacking unit brimming with depth and variety.

Whether Eze makes his bow this weekend or at Anfield, Arsenal believe they have secured the X-factor capable of tipping the title race in their favour.
