Former player and Tottenham Hotspur icon Gareth Bale has now weighed in on the future of Ange Postecoglou after he helped his side when the UEFA Europa League last night.
Tottenham ended their prolonged wait for silverware by winning the European Cup against Manchester United last night, and Gareth Bale believes that Postecoglou has certainly shown that he can succeed at the north London club.
The Australian manager has been heavily criticised for his overly aggressive style of football, and he has been accused of lacking the pragmatism needed to close out important games. However, Tottenham took a more cautious approach in the final against Manchester United, and they managed to grind out a 1-0 win against them in the final. Bale feels that Postecoglou certainly showed maturity in the final, and the club hierarchy will need to decide on his future quickly.
He said on TNT Sports 1: “I think only the chairman can decide [whether he stays], to be honest. There’s been so much talk about whether he goes or whether he doesn’t.
“I guess it’ll be interesting to see that because he’s won a trophy, the first Tottenham manager to do so in a long time. So I guess the board has some decisions to make. “I like the football that he plays. Obviously he lacks a bit of a plan B. But tonight showed there is a plan B. There’s a different side to how he’s played. “So I guess if he also matures as a manager and brings that defensive side to his teams, of course he can still have great success here.”
It remains to be seen whether they are prepared to give him another opportunity to showcase his qualities at the club next season. He has not only helped Tottenham turn a disastrous campaign into a successful one, but he has also helped them secure Champions League qualification for the next season, which will be a massive boost in terms of finances and their ability to attract quality players.
Tottenham have been linked with multiple managers in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides now.
