Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini joked with journalists that they should call Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho ‘if you have his number’, after a long transfer saga involving the Giallorossi and the former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund wideman.

For several weeks, Roma have been linked with a move for the out-of-favour Manchester United winger, who is into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

After a lot of back-and-forth, Roma have still not received Sancho’s approval to the move, although Gasperini maintains his stance that the player has ‘never said no’ to a move to the Stadio Olimpico

Reports over the last week claim that the Giallorossi have been exploring alternative options, including Chelsea’s Tyrique George , who has the same agent as Sancho, and more recently Federico Chiesa and Benja Dominguez.

What Gasperini said about Sancho and Roma talks

Gasperini was asked about Roma’s pursuit of Sancho during his pre-match press conference ahead of Roma’s upcoming Serie A match against Pisa.

“Call him if you have his number,” Gasperini joked. “You seem to know everything. I don’t know what the margins are now.

“Sancho is a possibility, we are a possibility for him. If that is not the case, he’ll stay where he is,” the Roma boss confirmed.

While Roma remain on the lookout for new attacking additions, Gasperini insists that he is happy with the options he has available for the Pisa match coming up on Saturday evening.

“Roma’s attack tomorrow will be made up of Ferguson, Dovbyk, Dybala, El Shaarawy, Baldanzi and Soule. There’s also (Antonio) Arena, who’s intrigued me and so I will have him on the bench to start getting to know him.”
