Roma have had a fine start overall, even though their center-forwards have sputtered so far. The Giallorossi have been carried by their defense, as they have scored just seven goals. Only eight Serie A teams have been less prolific.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Leon Bailey has looked better than expected in his return from a serious thigh injury. He provided a big spark off the bench versus Inter. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini plots to use him regularly once he’s fitter, along with Paulo Dybala, serving as a false-nine, and Matias Soulé.

The gaffer has already willingly renounced fielding a pure striker a couple of times. Roma have lost on both occasions, versus Torino and Inter, but the offensive production was somewhat adequate. Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson have combined for one goal and two assists so far.

Per Corriere dello Sport, if neither turns the corner, the Giallorossi will search for a new weapon in January. They continue to covet Arnaud Kalimuendo. Nottingham Forest offered way more than they could afford, €30M, to acquire him from Rennes last summer. However, he has had a rough impact with the Premier League amid the confusion at the club, which has already gone through two coaching changes. They could ask for him on loan.

Our Take on the Roma Attack

They’ll be a dangerous side once one of their frontline finds its footing, as they are airtight in the back. The chances have been there. It’s interesting that both Gasperini and Ivan Juric, who never really liked using a false-nine in the past, have both turned to it regularly this season. Such a solution lacks physicality but boasts plenty of talent and unpredictability.
