United manager Ruben Amorim is under pressure to turn the tide around at M16 next season

All eyes will be on Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim as the club looks to bounce back from a disastrous Premier League season. The Red Devils clearly struggled to get results on the pitch last season, and finished the campaign in the bottom half of the league table. To make matters worse, Amorim’s boys also failed to lift European silverware as Tottenham beat United 1-0 in the Europa League final.

It is fair to suggest that Ruben Amorim was given a free pass last season as he was coming to grips with the squad after joining midway through the season. But the Portuguese tactician will now be under pressure to turn the fortunes around at M16 once he gets to implement his own style during pre-season.

The ex-Sporting CP manager is known to be stubborn in his approach and does not like to fiddle too much with his formation and setup. Some might say that this was one of the major reasons why the Red Devils struggled to carve out positive results during the business end of last season.

Manchester United must aim to get back into Europe next season

The luck just isn’t on Manchester United’s side as they have gotten a tough start to the Premier League campaign next season. The media and the fans will be eager to see how Ruben Amorim goes about his business at M16 as the Red Devils will look to improve on last season and aim to compete in the top half of the Premier League table.

Club legend David May has urged United to aim for Europe next season as Amorim looks to create his own legacy at Old Trafford. Speaking on the Devils’ Advocate podcast (via BBC), May said,

“Ruben Amorim will be judged by the way we play. We played really well against Villa and City last season. There were six or seven really good games where we thought, this is it. This club needs European football. It’s tradition to play in Europe so we want that, and to get a trophy. The main thing for us is to start playing the way Manchester United play, and that’s attacking.”

The ex-United player added,

“It is a tough start to the season, but bring it on. The Premier League is not easy at all but we don’t have to worry about Europe as well, we can concentrate on each game as it comes. It doesn’t matter who it is, the main focus for Amorim now is to get as many points on the board as possible and get back into Europe.”

David May has insisted that Ruben Amorim’s time at Manchester United will be judged on how his team plays. The club legend added that United need to be in Europe and compete for a trophy while playing attacking football next season. May acknowledged that the Red Devils have a tough start next season, but urged Ruben Amorim to take each game as it comes and aim to get back into the European spots.

Man United’s rich history in Europe should not be slept upon as the club has time and again come back from the dead. The Red Devils suffered many setbacks last season, but it cannot get any worse than last season for the 13-time Premier League champions. With the spotlight focused on Ruben Amorim next season, anything less than a top-half finish in the Premier League will be considered a failure.
