Manchester United have just concluded what was quite a busy summer transfer window at Carrington, and the former Manchester Reds player Rio Ferdinand has praised the dealings of the club in terms of transfer, as he went on to rate it as an “eight out of ten” following what was a window which saw the Premier League heavyweights bring in some high-profile signings at M16 alongside some long-awaited clearouts.
He goes on to speak about his opinion on how the club did well with outgoings as well as incomings, which showed some sense of efficiency in the market under Ruben Amorim.
If we are talking numbers, we saw Man United spending a staggering £230 million during the window which saw the likes of Senne Lammens, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon through the doors at Old Trafford, and if we look at it closely, each of the aforementioned arrivals ends up helping specific needs in the current roster as the Portuguese head coach continues to reshape the squad according to his playing style.
Though while the incoming player list is commendable, it was the outgoing business that really impressed Ferdinand as he spoke about how his former employers deserved credit for moving on players who were disrupting the dressing room dynamics at M16. When it comes to outgoings, we saw how the likes of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Marcus Rashford were all shipped away from the dressing room at Old Trafford, and their exits (in a way) will clear the way for a more focused first-team environment given how concerns were raised around a few of those aforementioned names.
On his show, Rio Ferdinand Presents he said:
“I’m going to give it a 7.5, maybe an eight. I think I’ll give it an eight based on the players they’ve got out of the football club because they had the potential to affect the ambience if they were hanging around.
“I think it’s been a good decision from the club, good active work from the people behind the scenes.”
If we look at that departure list, it has some high-profile names (especially Garnacho, Sancho and Rashy), and their departure shows how the club is looking to move forward with the culture-first ideology that Amorim has been pushing since his arrival at United.
Hopefully we soon start seeing a sense of dividends on the pitch with this refreshed approach from the club, but what is a big positive for now is that the likes of Ferdinand have started to believe that United are taking important steps in the right direction, and that will also come through into how fans look at the current state of things at Carrington.
