Brennan Johnson has welcomed Mohammed Kudus’ competition at Tottenham ahead of taxing 2025/26 season

Thomas Frank has arrived at Tottenham Hotspur following a successful seven-year period with Brentford, and he is now tasked with bringing sustained success in the white half of north London.

The Danish tactician has been backed well in the transfer market thus far, with three new faces arriving at the club on top of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso’s loans getting turned into permanent deals. Out of all, Mohammed Kudus has been the Lilywhites’ marquee signing of the summer transfer window.

One of the most significant areas of weakness that the new Spurs gaffer immediately identified in the squad that he inherited from Ange Postecoglou is the inability to penetrate teams that sit deep. In the pre-season fixtures, Mohammed Kudus has shown exactly why he has been brought in from West Ham to fix these issues.

The Ghana international’s arrival saw him become the first player to transfer between Spurs and West Ham since Scott Parker in 2011. While his performance levels fluctuated wildly last season, our supporters will feel optimistic that the 24-year-old attacker can rediscover his form working under Thomas Frank.

Brennan Johnson welcomes competition from Tottenham’s summer signing

Tottenham signing Kudus in July has particularly impressed Brennan Johnson. However, rather than viewing his addition as undesirable, the Welshman seems to be embracing the challenge of a healthy competition with the Ghanaian star.

“Great player. I’ve been really impressed with him since he came in. Really nice guy as well. Last season, there were quite a few games where I don’t think we even had 11 first-team players,” Johnson told Football London.

“Getting as much quality as we can is important, and it is what we need because we are in the Champions League and want to go far in all competitions.”

Kudus acquisition would elevate Johnson’s performance levels

Johnson enjoyed a strong second season at White Hart Lane, becoming the club’s top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions. He also supplied seven assists and was Tottenham’s match-winner in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao in May.

However, the Welsh winger was often criticised by the fans for his lack of consistency and drifting away from games several times. The 24-year-old regularly featured on the right flank, but extra competition in the form of Kudus perhaps sees Johnson add a bit more consistency to his game and push himself to go to the next level.

His glowing praise on Kudus will be music to ears for our fans as we look to see intense but healthy competition between them for the right-wing spot in Frank’s XI.
