Greek side PAOK are reportedly confident in signing Greg Taylor from Celtic. The Scotland Internationalist’s deal with the Scottish Champions expires at the end of the month and the club have been keen to tie him up on a new deal. However, with fan favourite Kieran Tierney returning to the club in the summer, Taylor might fancy a new challenge.
PAOK have offered Taylor a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year, alongside a ‘significantly’ improved salary. One of the issues that had been reported with negotiations earlier in the year had been Taylor’s salary request. The club appear to have been willing to meet the player’s demands but the lure of a new opportunity, in a new league, could be appealing to the player.
As per speaking to Greek outlet Alpha via Record Sport, PAOK Technical Director Christos Karipidis stated that the club are confident of securing a deal: “We are simply awaiting the formal part.”
After signing from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019 to replace Tierney, Taylor has won 11 major trophies. The fullback has fought off a number of players for the jersey, even adapting his game to play as an inverted left back under Ange Postecoglou. Taylor has made 216 appearances for Celtic, scoring 9 goals and assisting on 33 occasions. The player would be a loss as he is a leader on the pitch and clearly a big character in the dressing room. Brendan and the club have left the decision up to the player in recognition of his service to the club over the last six years.
