Hansi Flick officially confirms Alejandro Balde Barcelona future

Manchester United’s search for a new left-back has continued to dominate headlines in the closing days of the transfer window.

Michael Carrick’s side have been left to explore alternative options after Newcastle’s Lewis Hall looked set to stay on Tyneside.

United have since opened talks with representatives for Alejandro Balde and was offered RB Leipzig’s David Raum as they weigh up their choices.

Barcelona’s left-back situation, in particular, has provided one of the more dramatic storylines of the entire window.

Balde’s future had been thrown into fresh doubt after his surprise omission from the club’s La Liga opener against Elche.

Hansi Flick confirms Alejandro Balde future

Hansi Flick has now confirmed, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano on X, Balde is part of the squad for Barcelona’s next match, telling reporters, “Alejandro Balde is part of the squad for tomorrow.”

The head coach added, “I’ve spoken with him, and the important thing is that he’s fully committed to us. He’s 22 years old and very young; he has potential.”

Flick’s comments follow a face-to-face meeting between the pair earlier this week, arranged after Alejandro Balde was left out of the matchday squad entirely against Elche.

The German had explained that decision by saying he wanted the defender to “clear his mind” amid the intense speculation surrounding his future.

Xavi Espart deputised at left-back in Balde’s absence, with Joao Cancelo and Gerard Martin also seen as alternative options in that position.

United are understood to prefer a loan deal with an option to buy, allowing them to assess Balde’s adaptation to English football before committing significant funds.

Barcelona’s financial situation, however, means the club may lean towards an immediate sale, having valued the defender at between £26million and £34million.

Balde had reportedly sought assurances over his role in the side before agreeing to fully commit his future to the club.

United’s interest stems from a long-standing need to strengthen competition for Luke Shaw, who remains the club’s only recognised senior option in that position.

Patrick Dorgu, initially signed with left-back cover in mind, has been used further forward under Carrick.

Racing Club’s Jorge Salinas has also been credited as a further option on United’s radar as they assess the market.

Flick’s public backing suggests Barcelona are prepared to give the defender another opportunity to prove his commitment.
