Harry Kane responds to Tottenham return talks as release clause news emerges

Kane remains tight-lipped about re-joining Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur made a club-record sale in 2023 when Harry Kane departed the club to join Bayern Munich in a transfer worth £100 million included performance-related bonuses. The England captain is enjoying life at the Allianz Arena and could lift his first major piece of silverware later this year with the Bavarians comfortably in charge of the Bundesliga title race.

In the German top division, Kane has an imperious record and averages over a goal per game. Recently, however, questions started being raised over his future after it emerged that his contract at Bayern has a £54 million release clause that would come into effect next year. Tottenham have the right to first refusal to any club that triggers the option and decides to sign Kane.

The 31-year-old has responded to claims regarding a potential return to England by saying the following (via Spurs Web).

“What I can say is that I’m very happy at FC Bayern. No comment on the clause.”

Harry Kane would be 33 years of age by the time his release clause comes into effect, so it remains to be seen if any club is willing to pay that kind of money for him from Europe. A move to Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Middle East might very possibly be on the cards, but it is hard to see any club from England or in the mainland spending a huge sum for the player at the dusk of his career.

Kane’s story with Tottenham, in particular, has very possibly ended, as a player anyway. Moreover, it is also unlikely that he pursues a return back to his former employers given that they have not at all improved since his departure. The most imaginable picture, however, is that he stays at Bayern Munich and attempts to add more trophies to his cabinet, including possible the Champions League.
