Harry Maguire will miss one game following the awarding of a straight red card to the defender against Bournemouth for a foul on Evanilson.
The 33-year-old, who had received a call-up to England alongside Kobbie Mainoo on Friday, conceded the penalty for the foul which the Cherries used to draw level at two apiece.
An international break will now follow this game where Maguire could make appearances against Uruguay and Japan before returning to serve his suspension against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday 13th April.
Maguire has been an essential part of the squad so far this season with him and Leny Yoro stepping into the central defender roles whilst Matthijs de Ligt continues his recovery from injury.
Ayden Heaven could be seen as an option for the England international’s place for the Leeds game whilst he serves his suspension, although other options could also emerge over the international break as players continue to return from injury.
Now, Harry Maguire has broken his silence on the game and red card.
Taking to his Instagram, the defender stated: “So soft but that’s where football is at atm and I should know better.
“You would think both decisions would reach the same outcome. We will be back after the break. Safe travel home reds, your support has been unbelievable.”
The defender’s message to supporters may help them to understand the emotions around the incident which could aid them as they try to understand the situation in general.
With a statement now made by Maguire, focus will switch towards the international break where he will be aiming to put the red card behind him and will be aiming to show Thomas Tuchel why he should be chosen for the World Cup this summer.
