Harry Redknapp on watching Edinburgh Derby with Peter Lawwell

Harry Redknapp has moved to clear up speculation surrounding him sitting with Peter Lawwell during Sunday’s Edinburgh derby at Easter Road…

The former Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers manager attracted attention on social media after being spotted in Leith alongside the ex-Celtic chairman.

Lawwell – who has kept a low profile since stepping down from his role at Celtic – made a rare public appearance to attend the fixture. The game saw Derek McInnes’ league-leading Hearts side claim a 2-1 victory at Easter Road.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Redknapp explained that his visit to Edinburgh involved talks with several influential figures in Scottish football. In addition to Lawwell, he revealed he also met Hearts investor Tony Bloom and Hibernian director Malky Mackay.

Redknapp said via The National: “I was up in Scotland on Sunday. I was at the Hibs vs Hearts game. I loved it, what an atmosphere, the people were great. I had a great day. Malcom Macpherson is a friend of mine and was the chairman at Hibs at one time. Malky Mackay, I met with them and went for a bit of lunch.”

“Peter Lawwell came, the former executive at Celtic, he came and we had a bit of lunch. Went to the game and had a good chat with Tony Bloom as he was up for the game with Hearts.”

“Both managers have done a great job, haven’t they? David Gray’s done a fantastic job with Hibs this year, and Derek McInnes, what he’s done at Hearts has been fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Celtic are still awaiting a decision from the league authorities as uncertainty continues over ticket allocations for next month’s Glasgow Derby.

Reports last week indicated that Celtic had opted not to offer the Ibrox club any away tickets for the Sunday 10 May fixture, citing unresolved concerns over previous restrictions placed on the Union Bears following incidents at Ibrox in March’s Scottish Cup quarter-final.

In response, all parties involved issued statements, with the league confirming that a dedicated panel had been formed to assess a formal request lodged by the Ibrox club under league regulations.

While an initial outcome had been expected early this week, the timeline has now shifted, with a final ruling anticipated later in the week.
