Ahead of the emotional night, Son admitted:

“It will be emotional. But it’s important for me and the club that this happens. I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium.”

“I am so happy because I am going to come back to London… and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family.”

Heung-min Son’s Emotional Goodbye to Spurs

Son enjoyed one of the most decorated individual careers in Tottenham history, ending on a high by helping the club lift the 2025 UEFA Europa League trophy under Thomas Frank. However, after securing European glory, he completed a move to MLS side Los Angeles FC.

His last appearance for Tottenham was a 1-1 draw with Newcastle became far more emotional than he expected. During the guard of honour arranged by the squad, Son noticed that the departure was hitting his teammates hard, particularly Ben Davies. Speaking to BeIn Sports Thailand, Son recalled:

“It’s worth mentioning that it was the first time I saw my good friend Ben Davies cry like that. He kept saying, ‘Don’t get too close to me.’ Seeing him tearing up, with his eyes going red and all, made me feel sorry and thankful at the same time.”

The Welsh defender’s reaction highlighted not just the end of an era, but the depth of Son’s relationships inside the dressing room. Their friendship extends well into their personal lives, with Son proudly serving as godfather to Davies’ son.

“As the godfather of his son, I need to strive for more to make my godson proud. I want to try and become a better person, footballer and godfather,”
