Victor Fraile-USA TODAY Sports

The city of Hong Kong has been adorned with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi‘s posters. The superstar landed in the far-east Asian city for the club’s pre-season tour. Further, Messi’s presence has sparked a frenzy among fans.

Following Inter Miami‘s devastating 6-0 defeat to Saudi PL side Al-Nassr, the club reached Hong Kong, as they continued with their pre-season tour. The team is set to take on a select Hong Kong XI, as they look to bounce back from the slumping defeat. While Messi was not in the starting lineup against Al-Nassr and entered as a late substitute, he might be available for the upcoming match against Hong Kong on Sunday.

Inter Miami will play against the Hong Kong Team at Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday. Excited fans gathered at the squad’s hotel to see the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. Roads were closed due to the match’s popularity, and a boat with the forward’s face on its sails was seen in Victoria Harbour. Advertisements for the match were displayed at bus stops and LED screens across the city, and replica shirts sold quickly.

After facing the Hong Kong XI, Inter Miami will compete against the Japanese club Vissel Kobe. Following these two matches in Asia, they will return back to the US, for the start of the new MLS season.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami suffered a devastating 6-0 loss to Al-Nassr, with Ronaldo absent due to an injury

David Beckham-owned MLS side, Inter Miami suffered a disappointing 6-0 loss to SPL side, Al-Nassr in the Kingdom Arena stadium in Riyadh. The teams faced off in the Riyadh Season Cup, with Nassr skipper Cristiano Ronaldo remaining sidelined due to injury.

The match, intended as a farewell for football legends, ended in a one-sided victory for the home team. Lionel Messi was brought on late, and he couldn’t make a big impact. As for Al-Nassr, Talisca netted a hat-trick (10th, 51st, and 73rd minutes). Center-back Aymeric Laporte scored a stunning long-range goal. Lastly, Otavio and Mohammed Maran added the other goals. Despite featuring top Barcelona players, the Miami squad couldn’t make a mark.
