Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is staring at the barrel of the gun at N17 despite the Europa League success. While season two had its ups and downs, Big Ange was quick to announce that season three would be even better as the Lilywhites would look to kickstart a new era at the club. But you never know what Daniel Levy would do when it comes to managerial decisions…
There is a high possibility that the main character (Ange Postecoglou) gets killed even before season three premieres in North London. The Australian managed to create history by becoming only the third Spurs manager to win European silverware. Yet the historic achievement might still not be enough to save the 59-year-old from getting the sack in the coming days.
The Lilywhites struggled in the Premier League and finished the campaign just a place above the relegation zone. But it is important to note that the squad faced numerous injuries to first team players throughout the season that contributed to the failures in domestic competitions. Despite the added pressure and media scrutiny, Big Ange has always remained keen to turn the club’s fortunes around.
It’s been two weeks since Tottenham exceeded all expectations and ended their 17-year wait for a major trophy. Many fans believed that winning the Europa League would be a turning point in the club’s history and Daniel Levy would look to kickstart a new era at N17. However, there is still no decision made about Ange Postecoglou’s future and the Lilywhites are already playing catch-up in the transfer market.
Now, Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has come out and urged Spurs to back Big Ange. Speaking to Fox Sports, Mikel said,
“I love big Ange. I think Ange is a really good manager. To win the Europa League is a massive, massive achievement. Yes, it wasn’t the season that the Spurs fans wanted to see, but to go on to win the Europa League for me I think is an incredible achievement. I hope he stays.”
The ex-Chelsea player added,
“(Levy) was the man who got rid of Jose Mourinho a day or two days before the (League Cup) Final, so you can never tell with Daniel Levy. I hope he makes the right choice for the football club, but yes, I love big Ange, and I hope he stays.”
John Obi Mikel has shown his support for Ange Postecoglou and believes that the Australian is a good manager. The ex-Chelsea star also suggested that winning the Europa League is an incredible achievement and Big Ange deserves to stay on the back of that success. But Mikel was quick to point out that Daniel Levy has always taken strange managerial decisions in the past, so one can never guess what he will end up doing regarding the Australian’s future at N17.
There is a strong belief around North London that Ange Postecoglou might be heading out the exit doors in the coming days. The Lilywhites are linked with Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Fulham manager Marco Silva as potential replacements. It remains to be seen what Levy decides to do, but it is fair to say that Big Ange will always be remembered fondly by the Spurs fans for giving them a lasting memory and achieving the unthinkable during his time at N17.
