How Both Teams Are Lining Up At Wembley

Highlights

  • Some surprise names for both sides
  • Plenty of rotation from Thomas Tuchel for this one
  • Grudge match so plenty of motivation nevertheless

Later on today, at 14:45 ET and 19:45 BST, England will host neighbours Wales in a friendly at Wembley Stadium, dedicated to Alzheimer's society, with players set to play without their names on the back.

Both teams will have one eye on their World Cup qualifiers during this international window. England face Latvia on the road, whilst Wales host Belgium in an absolutely huge game over in group J of UEFA qualifying.

Nevertheless, you never want to lose against a rival side, so there will be plenty of incentive for both sides and for both managers to get win. For Wales, a confidence boosting win or even a draw could be really handy ahead of that clash with Belgium in Cardiff on Monday evening.

As for England, Thomas Tuchel has opted with a line up of; Pickford; Konsa, Stones, Guehi, Spence; Rice (C), Anderson; Saka, Rogers, Gordon: Watkins.

Meanwhile the bench; Lewis Skelly, J.Henderson, Kane, Eze, Rashford, Burn, D.Henderson, Gibbs-White, Loftus-Cheek, Bowen, Trafford, Quansah, O'Reilly.

It is interesting to see Harry Kane in the squad, despite Tuchel ruling him out of the game. Perhaps every player not starting is officially in the squad, and he won't actually be down on the bench. Either way, let's hope those ankles get a full night off, and he doesn't get risked off the bench.

After making his England debut last month, Djed Spence gets his first ever start for the senior team. Elliot Anderson receives his third cap, all in a row, and all in the starting XI. Very exciting.

With an experimental XI, it is a shame Jarrod Bowen has not got a start, particularly with his club form for West Ham United. But Bukayo Saka has only started one game under Tuchel, so perhaps it is to get him up to speed with his system.

Meanwhile, John Stones makes his first appearance under Tuchel. It could be him or Konsa at right-back, with the other partnering Marc Guehi in the middle, but overall it feels more likely that it will be Konsa at full-back, and Stones in the middle. We shall see.

In the red corner, Wales manager Craig Bellamy has gone for a line up of; Darlow; Williams, Rodon, Davies (C), Dasilva; Ampadu, Cullen; Wilson, Brooks, Johnson; Moore.

As for the bench; King, A.Davies, Mepham, Koumas, Colwill, Cabango, James, Harris, Thomas, I.Davies, Sheehan, Broadhead, Kpakio, Lawlor, Colwill.

Surprisingly strong side from Wales, but Bellamy did big up the importance of the game beforehand, and how proud he is to be Wales manager - so he will be stressing the importance of winning every game, especially against England - even when it comes to friendlies.

Ben Davies is back at Wembley, where he played his club football with Tottenham Hotspur for the best part of two years. His Spurs team mate Brennan Johnson is also in from the off here.

Should be a decent game. Let's see.
