After a solid first year, Chido Obi is hoping to make a bigger impact at Manchester United in the 2025/26 season.
The 17-year-old striker has been highly rated since he joined from Arsenal last summer and has shown promise early on.
Chido Obi was brought to Manchester United last summer with the assurance of a path into the first team, and the club have followed through on that commitment.
Obi made eight senior appearances last season and has now been given a new shirt number, signalling his growing role within the squad for 2025/26.
He impressed during United’s post-season tour, netting twice against Hong Kong to help turn the game around. Now, he’s preparing for what could be a key season ahead.
Obi seems to be well regarded by Ruben Amorim, who spoke highly of the Danish forward last season.
Throughout the campaign, Amorim often mentioned the need for more physical presence in his squad, especially after United were overpowered by several opponents. That expectation extends to his striker, who needs to hold his own against strong centre-backs.
The Athletic has reported that those at Carrington have noticed a clear physical transformation in Chido Obi over the summer, with the forward adding noticeable bulk to his 6ft 2in frame.

Obi has also posted training clips on Instagram throughout the off-season, showing that he’s been putting in extra work ahead of the new campaign.
The young forward linked back up with Amorim’s squad last week as pre-season training got underway, hoping to make an early impression on the manager.
Chido Obi has the opportunity to change Manchester United’s transfer plans this summer, despite the club searching for a new striker.
The Red Devils had been expected to bring in another forward after Rasmus Hojlund struggled last season, but so far, their top targets haven’t worked out.
Liam Delap chose Chelsea over United, and Viktor Gyokeres looks set to join Arsenal. That’s left the club looking at other options, like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nicolas Jackson.
But if Obi impresses during United’s pre-season tour of the US, he could convince Amorim and Ineos that he deserves a bigger role next season.
It also looks like Hojlund will be staying put. If that happens, United could head into the new campaign with an all-Danish partnership up front.
