Manchester United remain interested in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike as they work to strengthen their attack – but it’s a move that’s raising questions among some fans.

United’s striker search hasn’t been smooth. They missed out on Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea for £30 million, and Viktor Gyokeres reportedly prefers a move to Arsenal. Now, attention has shifted to Ekitike, though there are concerns about whether he fits Ruben Amorim’s approach.

Ekitike is a striker who thrives on space. He’s quick, powerful and excellent in transition — attributes that suit counter-attacking setups. His top speed of 35.5 km/h last season would make him the fastest player in United’s squad.

But United, under Amorim, are moving towards a more possession-based style. That shift may not suit Ekitike, who excels on the break but offers less when teams sit deep. Hojlund had similar issues last season, and Ekitike could face the same challenges.

Ekitike tends to drift wide and drive at goal, relying on his acceleration to unsettle defenders. While he can create his own chances, he struggled with finishing last season — underperforming his expected goals in the Bundesliga.

Lionel Messi once spoke highly of Ekitike, calling him “special,” and the forward’s raw potential is obvious. But given United’s tactical direction, a move for the 22-year-old may carry risks — both in fit and adaptation.
