Manchester United remain linked with Viktor Gyokeres as the summer transfer talk continues to build pace.

The rumour mill has been in full swing for weeks, with Manchester United reportedly considering a range of attacking options.

Ruben Amorim is about to start his first full season in charge at Old Trafford, following a campaign that ended with a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and defeat in the Europa League final.

Back-to-back seasons without Champions League football is a situation that United know can’t continue much longer.

Matheus Cunha comes into a side that managed just 44 goals in the league – a number that desperately needs to improve.

Since then, United’s second bid for Bryan Mbeumo has been turned down, though the club remain optimistic about reaching an agreement with Brentford. The club were also linked with Liam Delap before he chose to join Chelsea.

So, it remains unclear which striker will arrive at Carrington, with Gyokeres still considered an option.

Former United and Sporting winger Nani has dismissed reports that the Sweden international might go on strike to force a move, saying he expects him to report for pre-season if he hasn’t left the club.

Reports had suggested Gyokeres might skip pre-season training to push through a Premier League move, with United among the clubs interested.

Asked whether he expects Gyokeres to show up for pre-season training, Nani said (via The Metro): “I believe so, he is a professional. I believe he will show up. If he doesn’t show up it’s because he’s going to another club.”

“He [Gyokeres] is a fantastic player, who has done a lot for Sporting and has several clubs interested in him. He knows that there is a lot of interest and it is natural that there is some anxiety until he has his life sorted out. It starts to create that anxiety, but I am sure that, whether he stays or leaves, he will have the right support and will be satisfied”, the Portuguese said.

Nani backs Sporting CP to have Gyokeres replacement plan

Reports linking Gyokeres with a move have been ongoing, especially since Amorim left Sporting to take charge at United in November.

In Nani’s view, the Lions’ board will only sell him if they can fill the No. 9 void.

“If Gyokeres leaves, it was already planned and Sporting’s management certainly have everything ready to replace him,” Nani said. “Sporting had a very strong team with Gyokeres, but they also have other good players and will quickly bring in someone to compensate.

“I believe it will be another positive year for Sporting, in which they will play good football and win again.”
