Tottenham have finally managed to address the issues in the attacking line as the club aims to build on the Europa League success next season. One of the many problems on the pitch for the Lilywhites was the inconsistency shown by key attackers. Well, Daniel Levy also took notice of that and decided to act on it quickly.
The North London club first addressed the issue early in the window by turning Mathys Tel’s loan into a permanent deal. The Frenchman managed to show glimpses of his potential during the back-end of last season, and the opportunity to sign the 20-year-old for a bargain price was too good to turn down.
However, that was not enough as Spurs really needed to bring in players that could bolster the quality of the squad and give the current attackers a run for their money. After Brennan Johnson endured a stellar individual campaign last season, it was decided that a new right-winger would be brought in to always keep the Welshman on his toes going forward.
Tottenham finally managed to make a statement signing this week as the club announced the arrival of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham on a £55m deal. After weeks of negotiations, the Lilywhites managed to lower the asking price significantly for the Ghana international. And the 24-year-old was also keen to play under Thomas Frank at N17, which made the move easier.
However, Jamie O’Hara has pointed out a flaw in Kudus’ game and urged Spurs to be careful. Speaking on talkSPORT, O’Hara said,
“I think Thomas Frank is a good manager for him because I think he will get the best out of him, and he will push him. He is at a big club with Champions League football. I just hope he doesn’t become one of these players who’s got a bit of a mentality (issue).”
The ex-Spurs player added,
“I just hope he doesn’t become a player who’s got an issue like that. He’s got to come in and be a leader; he’s got to come in and hit the ground running.”
Jamie O’Hara believes that Thomas Frank will get the best out of Mohammed Kudus next season. The ex-player also hopes that the Ghana international does not go through a ‘mentality issue’ while playing for a big club like Tottenham. O’Hara has urged Kudus to hit the ground running straightaway, and become a ‘leader’ in the dressing room through his performances.
It is important to point out that the 24-year-old did not have the best of games against Spurs last season. Kudus got a straight red card against the Lilywhites after kicking out Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr during the game. Well, fans will now hope that the prolific winger makes amends with the pair quickly as he looks to make his mark at N17 next season.
Signing the Ghana international is certainly a step in the right direction. He can play anywhere across the frontline, and also tends to provide a different dynamic to the attack as compared to Brennen Johnson. Kudus likes to cut in and create chances for his teammates by putting early crosses in. Not only that, but the 24-year-old also likes to get on the ball and take on the defenders with his quick dribbling skills.
All-in-all, signing Mohammed Kudus might just turn out to be a masterstroke in the long run.
