Former Chelsea player Daniel Sturridge admitted he’s a big fan of Joao Pedro and believe’s he’s the most underrated signing this summer.

Pedro was one of five attacking signings the Blues made this summer, and he’s made an instant impact at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea agreed a deal worth up to £60m with Brighton for Pedro, and he linked up with the Blues for the latter stages of the Club World Cup.

Daniel Sturridge shares thoughts on Joao Pedro

Despite being on holiday when Chelsea called, it didn’t take Pedro long to get up to speed, and he hit the ground running at the Club World Cup.

Pedro scored two brilliant goals against Fluminense in the semi final, before scoring with an excellent finish against PSG in the final.

The Brazil international has carried on his form into the Premier League season, and has two goals in Chelsea’s first three league matches.

Pedro opened the scoring against Fulham last weekend, and has rightfully been earning plaudits for his performances, and Sturridge has claimed he’s the most underrated signing this summer.

“I just love the signing of Joao Pedro, someone who I think will score a lot of goals for Chelsea, a lot,” he said on TikTok.

Pedro has now become even more important for the Blues after Liam Delap picked up a hamstring injury, which could rule him out for up to eight weeks.

The Brazil international has been playing as a number ten in the absence of Palmer, but he may now have to lead the line for the Blues.

Delap’s injury has caused issues for Chelsea, and after being unable to get Nicolas Jackson to return to the club, the Blues had to recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland for cover.

Guiu made just three league appearances for the Blues last season, and it remains to be seen whether Enzo Maresca will trust him more this time around.

The Spaniard could now be required to lead the line for Chelsea in both the league and Champions League, which is a major ask for someone of his experience, and it will be interesting to see how the youngster does.
