Being recognised as one of Liverpool’s greatest players is a huge honour, and getting that nod from someone like Ian Rush makes it even more special.
The club’s history is packed with players who have made their mark through memorable moments or standout seasons at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard, for instance, is always in that conversation. His leadership during both good times and bad, especially his role in their European success, solidified his place among the Reds’ legends.
Since joining in 2017, Mohamed Salah has been another name impossible to ignore. He continues to break records seemingly every season, both for Liverpool and across the Premier League.
His performances last season only added to his legacy. He climbed even higher up the all-time scoring charts for both the club and the league.
Salah is now the fourth-highest scorer in Premier League history, and his assist in the 2-1 win over Everton moved him into the league’s top 10 for all-time assists as well.
Prior to the Merseyside Derby, Rush was asked how the Egyptian winger compares to some of the greats who have played at Anfield.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the former Liverpool striker had nothing but praise for Salah, recognising just how much he’s meant to the club during this period of success.
“100%, he is like the modern-day Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, that is what it is all about. Hopefully, we can get another two years out of him and hopefully a lot more goals.”
Getting that kind of backing from a club legend is something any player would value.

It is hard to overstate just how impressive the 33-year-old’s numbers are over his eight years at Anfield.
Salah currently sits third on the club’s all-time scoring list with 248 goals, just 37 behind Roger Hunt, who found the net 285 times during his career with the Reds.
Catching Ian Rush himself, who leads the chart with 346 goals, would be an enormous achievement.
Still, there is a growing belief that the Egyptian star could realistically move into second place before he calls time on his Liverpool career.
“Why not? You know he has had a fantastic career so far, and hopefully he has got another two years, and let’s hope he can get one closer today,” Rush told TNT Sports.
Whenever Salah chooses to move on or hang up his boots, there will be no doubt about where he stands among Liverpool greats.
His impact goes far beyond numbers – he leaves behind a legacy built on trophies and unforgettable moments that will stay with fans for generations.
