Ibrahim Mbaye has been one of the most intriguing young attackers linked with Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils previously making a move for the Paris Saint-Germain prospect.
United have already strengthened heavily ahead of Michael Carrick’s first full season in charge, but their recruitment work has continued as the club look to add more high-potential talent.
Mbaye fits that profile perfectly.
The 18-year-old is a right-footed winger capable of playing across the front line and has already accumulated significant senior experience despite his age.
He made 42 first-team appearances for PSG and contributed three goals and three assists across all competitions last season, while also making his mark on the international stage.
Mbaye scored for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, becoming the youngest African goalscorer in the competition’s history at 18 years and 143 days old.
Manchester United were among a number of major European clubs to make an approach for the teenager, with interest also coming from elsewhere in the Premier League and Bundesliga.
However, Mbaye has now taken a major step towards joining another club.
According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool have reached an agreement with Mbaye over the financial terms of a five-year contract.
Hawkins reports that the two parties have agreed personal terms and that Mbaye has made his choice, with the winger not wishing to pursue interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool are also said to want Bradley Barcola as part of their attacking plans, with the Merseyside club pushing to sign both players.
The development represents a blow to the other clubs that had been tracking Mbaye, including Manchester United, who had previously explored a move for the PSG youngster.
While an agreement on personal terms does not itself complete a transfer, Mbaye’s reported decision now places Liverpool in a strong position as talks surrounding his future continue.
