Adam Idah is nearing the end of his short Celtic career after a £7 million bid from English championship side Swansea City has been reported to have been accepted…
A real difference maker in his first four months at the club, Idah scored some crucial goals that helped tip a tight Celtic race against Philippe Clement’s theRangers in Celtic’s favour. He then came off the bench in the against the same mob to score the only goal of the game in the 2024 Scottish Cup final.
Idah followed that us with 20 goals last season, mostly after coming on from the bench as he played the second striker role behind firstly want-away Kyogo and then Daizen Maeda.
Three league games in and a penalty shoot-out miss in the Champions League play-off and Idah’s away, a victim of an incessant online attack from our support, worse than Scales gets and also Arne Engels from these authors of our own misfortune.
Idah’s price tag was the problem, as indeed is Engels’. Neither player set the transfer fees paid and in Adam’s case the nature of the deal Celtic did to bring him up from Norwich, where he was third choice striker and rather optimistically valued at £3m, meant that the Carrow Road club were able to extract another £5m from Celtic due to how well Idah had done in Glasgow.
When you strip out the add-ons Celtic will just about have broken even on buying then selling Idah, so that lost money concern was effectively nonsense, as indeed would be the case if Engels is also chased out the door.
With Adam now likely to leave in the next 48 hours it’s crucial we get a replacement or two in the door especially with the clock running down on the transfer window.
Reports have indicated that we are looking to make a bid of £8 million for Anderlecht striker Kasper Dolberg. If true then we can only applaud our club’s ambitions for once as he would prove to be a tremendous signing in my opinion.
Dolberg 27 is an experienced international striker who’s entering the peak years of his career, not exactly the type of player we usual splash the cash on, so it’s a bit of a surprise to say the least.
6ft 2in Dolberg is not only proven on the international stage, but at club level with Ajax, Nice, and Anderlecht, with a career record of 115 goals in 323 games. He’s a proven experienced goalscorer, he’s exactly what we need.
Get it done Celtic and the best of luck to Adam Idah, a player who gave everything, delivered but ultimately was disrespected and his confidence destroyed by trolls and keyboard experts within our own ranks. They’ll be happy this morning.
