Manchester United finally offload Antony

Antony has finally secured his permanent escape from Manchester United . The Brazilian winger has signed with Real Betis after impressing on loan during the second half of last season.

The deal is reportedly worth $25.6 million with $3.4 million in add-ons. United will also receive 50 percent of the net profit Real Betis makes if it ever chooses to sell Antony in the future. Selling Antony has resulted in a $89.4 million loss, after United originally signed him from Ajax for a $115M fee in 2022.

Moving on from Antony appeared to be a top priority for Ruben Amorim and United this summer. He's struggled to prove himself since arriving in Manchester, and is projected to be part of the team's reserves if he doesn't find an exit ahead of the transfer window closing.

Now, United has saved $5.4 million per year on his salary, and could receive an additional future windfall if he moves on. And while his transfer represents a huge loss for United, it does allow Amorim to continue reshaping the squad into a team he believes can win a Premier League title in the future.

Real Betis has been targeting Antony all summer. His impact in La Liga was immediate, registering five goals and two assists in 17 outings. He will drastically improve Betis' overall attack. Antony's skill set appears better suited to the Spanish game than the style of football that England's top league has to offer.

Amorim has now overseen multiple high-profile moves to streamline United's roster. Antony joined Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in walking through the Old Trafford exit door this summer. Tyrell Malacia is the only member of United's "Bomb Squad" to remain with the club after failing to secure a move away.

Antony now has the chance to rebuild his career after a disastrous move to Manchester. With the World Cup set for next summer, he will hope that some stellar showings for Real Betis will put him back in contention for a spot in Brazil's squad.

In truth, the only loser in how this scenario played out is United's bank balance, but that's always a risk when spending big in the transfer market.
