It is not just a football transfer
Erkut Çelebi, head of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has revealed the impact of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah's move to Trabzonspor on tourism activity in the city.
According to Çelebi, the transfer has sparked significant tourism demand for Trabzon, not only from Egypt but across various North African countries. The city now wants to capitalise on that interest to boost tourism all year round.
Speaking to the 61saat website, which covers news about the Turkish city, he explained that hotels in Trabzon usually enjoy busy periods during just three or four months of the year before occupancy rates fall away. That is why the relevant authorities are working to use the new attractions to extend the tourist season.
Trabzonspor announced the signing of Mohamed Salah last Thursday, a free transfer running for two seasons after his Liverpool contract expired at the end of last season.
