Tottenham academy talent George Abbott could require surgery after suffering injury at Wycombe Wanderers

Tottenham Hotspur youngsters and academy talents have had a mixed time on loan this season thus far.

Luka Vuskovic has been enjoying his time at HSV Hamburger, becoming a mainstay in the starting XI and winning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award. Yang Min-hyeok is also thriving at Portsmouth after a slow start and assisted John Swift’s goal in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Monday.

There have been players who have failed to get their loan spells going. Spurs academy talents Mikey Moore And Jamie Donley have struggled for regular game time at Rangers and Stoke City, respectively, hindering their development in the process. Another youngster who has gone out on loan is George Abbott.

George Abbott suffers quad injury

George Abbott spent the last season on loan at Notts County, where he massively impressed in a deeper midfield role. The 20-year-old registered five goals and six assists in 40 League Two appearances, as Notts County finished sixth. He was farmed out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers during the summer transfer window, the midfielder has been performing well in League One.

Unfortunately, the youngster has suffered an injury. According to Wycombe Wanderers boss Michael Duff on X, Abbott faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines and may require surgery.

Abbott has been a key player for Wycombe Wanderers this season, bagging a goal in 10 appearances and progressing well. Now, he will have to sit out for long following a supposed quad injury, which has been bothering him of late. Going by Michael Duff’s words, it Is a serious injury and will miss a significant chunk of the rest of the season.

Big blow for Wycombe

Abbott was proving to be a key player for Wycombe. While League One football isn’t exactly the highest level, the midfielder was ticking every box he can. The youngster has even chipped in with a goal and showed his flexibility by playing in different midfield positions.

Things have been positive for the Englishman and there was a hope that he could enjoy another strong loan spell away from Tottenham. However, the injury sustained is a cruel blow, sidelining Abbott for months. It is a big setback for Wycombe as well, and manager Duff must now find a solution to replace Abbott in midfield.

Spurs and Wycombe will now be hoping that the 20-year-old can make a speedy recovery and come back stronger for the second half of the season.
