INEOS officially re-sign striker on loan deal

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe were always going to face significant scrutiny during Manchester United’s summer transfer window.

Ratcliffe’s INEOS remains a minority co-owner of United, holding roughly 29 per cent of the club, while playing a major role in its sporting direction.

Michael Carrick has so far received two major additions expected to seriously compete for first-team places, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans brought in to reshape the midfield.

Neither covered themselves in glory during United’s disappointing opening-day defeat to Hull City, however, as the newly-promoted side secured a shock 2-0 victory.

Further reinforcement is coming, with United having reached an agreement to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton and an official announcement expected soon.

A left-back is also expected to be targeted before the window closes, while another striker could enter the equation if Joshua Zirkzee departs.

The Dutchman certainly has suitors, with Aston Villa making an approach over Zirkzee as uncertainty grows around his future.

INEOS officially complete striker signing

Elsewhere in the INEOS football operation, OGC Nice have officially re-signed Elye Wahi from Eintracht Frankfurt on loan with an option to buy.

The move comes while Ratcliffe continues attempting to sell the French club, having lowered his asking price for Nice after struggling to secure a buyer.

Nice confirmed the transfer on their official website, revealing that significant support from INEOS and Ratcliffe helped make a deal that initially appeared impossible happen.

Wahi spent the second half of last season on loan at Nice and became an important figure during their battle for Ligue 1 survival.

The 23-year-old produced nine goals and two assists in 19 appearances across all competitions, while also helping the club reach the Coupe de France final.

Nice supporters had been eagerly anticipating his return throughout the summer, and the striker has now got his wish after pushing to head back to the Allianz Riviera.

Sporting director Roger Ricort admitted Wahi still has physical progress to make following the World Cup, but believes his finishing, movement and character can once again prove crucial.
