The ripple effects of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s sporting empire continue to stretch far beyond Manchester United, with a major commercial shift now taking place in cycling.
INEOS have confirmed, via their website, a landmark five-year partnership with European tech firm Netcompany, a deal that will see the INEOS Grenadiers rebranded as the Netcompany INEOS Cycling Team from the 2026 Giro d’Italia onwards.
The agreement is understood to be worth around £100 million, a huge injection that not only boosts the cycling side financially but also underlines Ratcliffe’s strategy of building elite, data-driven sporting projects across his portfolio.
This move comes at a time when questions are still being asked about INEOS’ direction at Old Trafford, especially after a turbulent period that has seen structural changes, fan unrest, and inconsistent performances on the pitch.
At the core of the new cycling partnership is PULSE, an advanced AI-powered platform already being used in major real-world environments like Munich and Heathrow airports, and now set to be introduced into elite sport for performance optimisation.
Sir Dave Brailsford, who previously played a key role behind the scenes at Manchester United, is once again leading the charge with a familiar vision.
“This is one of the most significant partnerships in cycling – a real vote of confidence not only in our team, but in the sport itself.
“It’s a major moment for us and marks the beginning of a new chapter.
“Our sport is a human endeavour, where decisions in training, racing and recovery make the difference every day.
“We have no shortage of data – the real challenge is turning it into simple, practical actions and delivering them consistently.
“With Netcompany, we can do that better.
“PULSE allows us to orchestrate our data into clear insights that support faster, better decisions when it matters most.
“This is more than a sponsorship it’s a partnership with purpose.
“It brings long-term stability, giving us the platform to invest in performance over time – building the foundations to win, and keep winning.
“Ultimately, it’s about creating the conditions to win the Tour de France.”
That last line ties directly into Brailsford’s newly launched “Mission 8,” a plan to secure an eighth Tour de France title, echoing the “Mission 21” concept he previously introduced during his time at Manchester United in pursuit of a record-breaking league crown.
Ratcliffe himself also weighed in on the deal, reinforcing the long-term vision behind the move.
“I’m really pleased to welcome Netcompany to the cycling team, establishing a new long-term partnership that will help create the right conditions to deliver more success.
“This collaboration brings additional resource, technology and capability across performance and operations to give the team the ability to compete consistently at the highest level of the sport.”
The billionaire has already been investing around £30 million annually into the cycling setup, but this agreement signals a shift toward sustainability and innovation rather than pure financial backing.
From a Manchester United perspective, it’s hard to ignore the contrast, with fans still waiting to see similar clarity and success in football operations under INEOS.
Brailsford’s departure from a day-to-day role at United back in 2025, following internal disagreements and restructuring, marked a turning point, and now, his full focus appears to be delivering results elsewhere.
